So you've got this great idea that you know will influence and impact those around you. You get excited when you think about it, and a little giddy when you share it with your close friends and family. But what do you do after you talk about it? How do you actully get started? The answer on how to start your business, project, book, podcast, etc. may be simpler than you think.
I've fallen in the trap of trying to research and figure every-single-thing out before I started pursuing my goals. I scoured the internet for articles, I've signed up for mini-master classes, followed business and marketing professionals on social media, interviewed family that owned their own businesses, downloaded ebooks, and listened to several podcasts. I even contemplated paying over $1000 to join a class on "How to Start a Business". (Thanks to my parents for saving me from spending money I didn't have. )
What I learned in all my efforts to try to start, was that I wasn't doing anything. Podcast, books, articles, advice, and even blogs, like this one, were all good and informative, but what was missing was ACTION. I had to do something with all this knowledge I had aggressively acquired. I had to actually START. I had to start the website, write the blog I wasn't sure made any sense, design the jewelry, design the artwork, open a social media account, etc. I had to do the work.
Nothing that I had read about, no matter how informative and encouraging was going to matter if I didn't take the first step and just start doing something. I would pray and I truly believed that I would start my business and God would guide me through it. But what I believed didn't really matter unless I walked and lived like I believed it.
So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. - James 2:17 NLT
So How Do YOU Start?
Like I mentioned in the beginning of this post, the answer is simple. It may not be easy, but it is simple.
You've already done the research. You've asked all your friends, family and coworkers. You fasted and prayed. You made a list of pros and cons. You listened to that podcast episode on how to start a business 7 times already. You've already told people what you were going to do. Now Just start doing something. Do one thing that will bring you one step closer to accomplishing what God put in your heart to do. Create the website. Write the outline for your book. Apply for that college. Create the profile for that Job Board. Run for that position. Write the blog.
For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure.- Philippians 2:13 AMP
If God put it in your heart to do it, He WILL help you through it! So, after you have prayed, done all your research and asked all your questions, the next thing for you to do is START!
You are not alone; God is with you. You know what to do, now do it.
